Vrat Kadhi

Vrat Kadhi is usually made during Hindu fast. This kadhi is thick sour gravy made from waterchestnut flour and curd. Curd is a good source of protein, vitamin B12, pantothenic acid, potassium, and zinc. Water chestnuts are very nutritious and contain high amounts of fiber, potassium, manganese, copper, vitamin B6, and riboflavin. most of their calories come from carbs.

    Ingredients to make Vrat Kadhi:

    ½ cup curds (dahi), 1 tbsp. Waterchestnut (shingoda) flour, black salt (sanchal) to taste, ½ tsp. red chilli powder, a pinch of powdered cinnamon (dalchini), 1 cup water, 1 tbsp. finely chopped coriander leaves, a pinch of sugar

    For tempering:

    ½ tsp cumin seeds (jeera), 1 tbsp. ghee, 1 dry kashmiri red chilli, 4-5 curry leaves (kadi patta)

    Steps to make Vrat Kadhi:

    1. Combine curd, Waterchestnut (shingoda) flour, red chilli powder, cinnamon powder, black salt, sugar in a mixing bowl.

    2. Add water and mix well without lumps.

    3. Pour it into the pan, turn the heat to medium and bring it to a boil.

    4. Simmer it and keep stirring occasionally.

    5. Heat ghee in a tempering pan and add cumin seeds, red chilli, curry leaves and sauté for few seconds and pour it immediately on the simmering kadhi.

    6. Mix well and simmer for 5 minutes or until kadhi becomes thick. Add chopped coriander leaves and remove from heat.

    Prepare and serve to your child to enjoy the yummy kadhi.
