Are you surfing for an instant healthy recipe for your child? Then this Fluffy Oats Idli is the right choice! This is an easy and light dish to prepare. Oats are rich in more soluble fiber than any other grain and has a healthier texture too.
Contents
1 cup oats, ½ cup rava/sooji, 2 cups curd, a pinch of baking soda, salt as required and water as needed
For the seasoning:
1 tsp. oil, 1 tsp. mustard seeds, a pinch-asafoetida/hing, 1 tsp. urad dal, 1 tsp. Bengal gram (channa dal), ½ tsp. jeera/cumin seeds, ½ tsp. whole black pepper (crushed) ½ tsp. finely grated ginger, 7 chopped curry leaves, 1 tbsp. chopped coriander leaves
1. Take oats in a pan and dry roast it for 5 minutes until light golden brown.
2. Let it cool and then dry grind to make it a powder.
3. In the same pan roast rava too and mix it with oats powder.
For the seasoning:
1. In the same pan, heat 1 tsp. oil and add mustard seeds and when they splutter, add channa dal, urad dal curry leaves, grated ginger and asafoetida and fry till the dals are golden.
2. Add grated carrot and sauté for 2-3 minutes and transfer them to the oats bowl.
Making the batter:
1. Add curd, salt and water as required and make a batter which is neither thick nor thin.
2. Keep it aside covered for 20-30 minutes. 12. After 30 minutes, if the batter is thick, then add a few tablespoons of water to get medium consistency.
3. Heat some water in an idli vessel on medium flame.
4. Grease the idli moulds with oil and fill it with the oats idli batter. Steam cook for 10 to 12 minutes till it is cooked.
5. Insert a curry leaf stem into the oats idli to check whether it is cooked. The stem should be clean without any batter.
6. Do not over steam, as it will make the idli hard.
7. Switch the flame and leave it to cool for 5 minutes. Take a spoon, dip it in some water, slide it under the idli, they will just pop out.
