A popular daal from Uttranchal prepared from gahat and tempered with gandherin is perfect to serve as a main course along with chapati. This dal is rich in protein and Vitamin C and helps cure common cold.

Ingredients to make Gahat ki Dal:
1 cup gahat, 2 -3 tbsp rice paste, 1 tsp turmeric powder, 1 tsp coriander powder, 1 tsp red chili powder, 2 tbsp oil, 1 tbsp chopped ginger, a pinch of hing, 1 tbsp chopped garlic, 1 tsp cumin seeds, a small piece of gandherin
Steps to make Gahat ki Dal:
1. Wash and soak the dal for 10 minutes.
2. Pressure cook dal. Add little salt, turmeric, red chilli powder, coriander powder, ginger, garlic and salt to it.
3. Add rice paste to daal and allow it to cook for 4-5 minutes. Meanwhile make a tempering of cumin seeds, hing and gandherin.
4. Add the temper to the dal.
Garnish it with chopped coriander leaves. Serve hot.
