Treat with this Mallige Thatte Idli, the regular breakfast dish in every household in Karnataka and it is very easy and quick to make. This idli is made along with poha, urad dhal and Tapioca pearls (sabudana) with nutritional benefits of carbs, fibre, iron, sodium and protein.

3 cup rice, 1 cup poha, 1 cup black urad dal, ½ cup Tapioca pearls (sabudana), 3 tbsp methi seeds, water as required, 1 tbsp sugar, salt as required, 1 tbsp ghee, a pinch of soda (optional)
Note: The idli mould is plate and not the usual idli mould.
1. Wash all the ingredients separately, and soak rice and sabudana for about 4-5 hours and urda dal and poha for 1 -1.5 hours.
2. Grind the urad dal first in a grinder, into a smooth paste adding enough water. Add the water in intervals.
3. Once, urad dal is well ground add rice, poha, and sabudana, and grind adding little water. Grind them all together into a smoother batter than the normal idli batter.
4. Keep the ground batter in a big vessel, add salt, mix well and keep aside for fermentation for about 10-12 hours.
5. After the batter is fermented, if you want to add a pinch of soda, add and mix gently.
6. Grease the plates with little ghee and pour the batter and steam the idlis for 8-10 minutes.
Prepare and serve soft Mallige Thatte Idli with ghee for tomorrow’s breakfast.
