A delicious accompaniment to dosa or otthapams, this Onion Chutney is a popular dip that you can serve to your child. Prepared using onion, tomato, tamarind and urad dal, this chutney is easy-to-make.

2 large onions chopped, 1 large tomato chopped, 2-3 garic cloves, 1 tbsp urad dal, 1 dry red chilli, 1 tsp cumin seeds, 1 tsp mustard seeds, a string of curry leaves, 1 tbsp tamarind pulp, 1 tbsp oil, salt to taste, water as needed
1. Heat oil in a pan. Add urad dal and saute till turns brown. Add dry red chili.
2. Now add garlic and onion and saute for a minute. Add tomato and cook till softens. Add salt.
3. Remove the mixture from flame. Allow it to cool. Then grind it along with tamarind pulp. Add little water if required.
4. Now heat 1 tbsp oil in pan, add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Allow them to splutter.
5. Add curry leaves. Pour this tempering over onion tomato mixture. Mix well.
Onion Tomato Chutney is ready to serve with any breakfast dish.
