Porridge with Nuts

Porridge with nuts is an excellent sweet preparation made during festivals. Rice along with milk provide valuable carbohydrates and calcium respectively. The porridge is flavoured with grated apple, crushed dry fruits and saffron, resulting in a yummy porridge. Whether served warm or chilled, the taste is awesome.

    Ingredients to make Porridge with Nuts:

    1.5 cups cow milk, 1 tbsp basmati rice, 1 tbsp grated apple, ½ tsp ghee, 1 tsp crushed dry fruits powder, ¼ cup water, 3-4 strands of saffron

    Steps to make Porridge with Nuts:

    1. In a pan, add ½ tsp ghee. Once warm, add the grated apple and saute for about 10 minutes on medium flame. Turn off the flame and let the apple mixture cool down.

    2. Immerse saffron strands in ½ tsp milk.

    3. In another vessel, boil milk and basmati rice. Cook till the rice gets soft.

    4. Cook till the milk reduces to about 3/4th of its original quantity. You can also add water to adjust porridge’s consistency.

    5. Switch off the flame. Garnish the porridge with nuts with dry fruit powder and strands off saffron immersed in water. Add the cooked grated apple too. Switch off the flame. Serve it not very hot or cold.

    Enjoy this yummy porridge with nuts, which has all the goodness and sweetness of apple in it.
