A perfect fried snack item straight from South India to soothe his epicurean tongue also known as simply Potato Ball. Made with potato and onion, this snack is good to help in gaining weight, decked with healthy fats. The best part about this potato balls is that you can prepare it in few minutes without much efforts.

3 potatoes, 1⁄2 cup rice flour, 1 cup refined oil, 1 cup gram flour (besan), 1 teaspoon finely chopped ginger, 1 cup finely chopped onion, 1 tablespoon juice of 1 lemon, 1 teaspoon urad dal, 1 teaspoon salt, 1 tsp mustard seeds, turmeric powder
1. Boil, peel and mash the potatoes. Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and urad dal. Allow the mustard seeds to splutter and urad dal to get golden.
2. Add the chopped onion and saute it. Now add chopped ginger and saute. Add turmeric powder and salt.
3. Now add the potatoes to this mixture and stir well. Add lemon juice and salt if required. Mix well. Turn off the flame.
4. Make medium sized balls from this mixture.
5. Prepare batter by mixing rice flour, gram flour, salt, and enough water giving it pouring consistency.
6. Heat the oil in large kadhai over medium flame. Dip the potato balls in batter and carefully place into the hot oil.
7. Deep fry the potato balls until golden brown. Once done, remove and drain the excess oil.
These bite-sized Potato Balls taste the best when paired with coconut and coriander chutney.
