Sago Payasam

Sago Payasam is an excellent sweet creamy dessert for your baby, specially made during festive occasions. Simple, easily available ingredients like sago, milk and jaggery are used to make this yummy sweet preparation. Sago and jaggery are rich in carbohydrates and milk is a good source of calcium while flavouring the payasam with ghee, takes care of the fats.

    Ingredients to make Sago Payasam:

    ½ cup sabudana, 2.5 cups milk, ½ cup jaggery, 2-3 cashews, 1 tsp ghee

    Steps to make Sago Payasam:

    1. In a pan, add ½ tsp ghee. Add the cashews and saute for 2 mins. Powder the cashews.

    2. In the same pan, add the remaining ghee and saute the sabudana. Roast for 3-4 mins on low flame. Keep stirring.

    3. In a vessel, pour the milk and add the sabudana pearls. Cook the sabudana on medium flame. Keep stirring. The sabudana pearls will turn translucent and float on top.

    4. Add the crushed jaggery and give a good mix

    5. If the milk has thickened, you can add little water to adjust the consistency.

    6. Finally, garnish with cashew powder.

    Hot, tasty and nutritious sago payasam is ready for your baby. Serve warm. You can also chill this payasam and have it after meals. If made during festive occasions, offer to your diety first and give it to your baby as prashad. Enjoy!
