Upma

Upma is a tasty, nutritious and very easy to make at home dish, which is just perfect for morning breakfast or evening snacks. Add in different veggies to enhance its nutritional value for your child. It has healthy carbs and minerals.

    Ingredients to make Upma:

    3/4th cup suji, 1 chopped tomato, 1 chopped onion, a string of curry leaves, 1 tbsp mustard seeds, 1 tbsp oil, coriander leaves, 1 tsp urad dal, 1 tsp chana dal, a pinch of asafoetida, salt, water.

    Steps to make Upma:

    1. Heat 1 tbsp ghee in kadia. Roast the suji on low-medium flame. Keep stirring continuously.

    2. Heat 2 tbsp oil in kadai and add mustard seeds. When the seeds splutter, add curry leaves, urad dal, chana dal and saute it for a minute.

    3. Add chopped onions and saute it till becomes translucent.

    4. Add chopped tomatoes, salt and saute for 2-3 minutes.

    5. Add water and bring the mixture to boil. Add roasted suji and mix well.

    6. Keep stirring continuously to avoid lumps. Cover and cook for 2-3 minutes until mixture turns thick. Switch off the flame and let it get settled for 5 minutes.

    Add fried cashews or nuts before serving.
