Your Child's Appetite is Changing Now- Know How Much She Needs to Eat

Your child's appetite is changing a lot these days. Remember that your child who happily ate foods, squash, and most;y anything else that landed on their high-chair tray? They will be replaced by someone a lot less agreeable at mealtime.

What you need to know
After your child’s first year, growth slows down by some percent, and so may appetite. Infants need to eat about 35 to 50 calories per pound, while children require roughly 35 to 40 calories per pound. It’s natural for a nearly 2-year-old’s appetite to be erratic from day to day. Sometimes you tend to push your child to eat more, giving your child rewards and praise for having a couple more bites. Believe your child when they push their plate away or tell you they are full. Otherwise, they will eventually start to eat when they are not hungry and that’s a slippery slope.

Hunger cues
People found that many overweight and obese 1 to 2 year olds have lost touch with their own hunger cues. Keeping a child aware of their hunger and fullness may go a long way to help prevent obesity, they are just too busy to eat after a few bites, and they are hopping down from the table to play. It’s okay to have healthy munchies such as bite-size veggies, fruit, cheese, and whole-grain crackers within arm’s reach during playtime.
