The Indian Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands is situated between the Andaman Sea and the Indian Ocean. The fairs and festivals celebrated in Andaman and Nicobar Islands are a big draw for tourists from around the world. Some of the popular ones include the Ganesh Pooja, Kali Pooja, Prakash Yatra, and Sri Shivaratri.
The Ganesh Pooja is an annual event that takes place on the fourth day of the Hindu month of Bhadrapada. During this festival, pujaris (priests) perform special rituals, known as "Aartis," in honour of the God Ganesh at beautifully decorated temples in Aberdeen Bazaar, Golghar, and other locations.
Kali Pooja is a celebration honouring Maa Kali, the Hindu goddess. It happens in the Hindu calendar's Ashwin month, which spans from October to November. During this time, the Kali temple at Prem Nagar is adorned with colourful lamps.
This Prakash Yatra, which takes place just one day before Christmas. Around 6,000 Christians participate in the event, and spectators congregate in groups at various locations to watch.
Sri Shivaratri is a significant festival that takes place in the Hindu calendar month of Magha, typically in February or March. It is widely observed in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. On the festival day, Lord Shiva temples in Delanipur, Pahargaon, and Garacharma perform special rituals and aartis in addition to their usual decorations.
