Arunachal Pradesh is a state with diverse cultures and traditions, and its festivals and fairs reflect the same. The tribals of the state celebrate unique festivals and display their culture in the form of art, crafts and local delicacies. Some of the prominent festivals of this state are Solung of Adis, Losar Festival, Torgya of Monpas, Ziro Festival of Music and Dree Festival.
Solung of Adis is the most popular festival in Arunachal Pradesh. It is an agricultural-based festival, and it involves people offering rituals for protection from evil spirits and praying for the betterment of the state and people. Ponung dance is a highlight of this festival.
Losar Festival is a major festival in the Tawang district. It was considered a fertility festival during the pre-Buddhist era. It involves farmers lighting incense sticks and performing rituals to appease the local deities. People also wear new clothes and jewellery during this festival.
Torgya of Monpas is a prominent festival of the Monpa tribe. The festival spans three days, and it is celebrated inside the monastery. It involves monks preparing a 10-foot pyramid made out of flour called Torgya. The tribe’s Appa Pat-Sun folk dance is another highlight of this festival.
Ziro Festival of Music unites musicians from across the state and other northeastern states. It spans four days, and you can enjoy different genres of music from across the world.
