Meghalaya is a state in the northeastern part of India. It came into existence on January 21, 1972. The state’s name means “abode of clouds” in Sanskrit. Fittingly, the state is the wettest region in the country. Apart from that, it is also home to waterfalls, dense forests and Valleys. Some of the important places to visit in this state include Cherrapunji, Shillong and Wlliamnagar.
Cherrapunji is a must-visit place in Meghalaya. It is the second wettest place after Mawsynram, just 15 km from Cherrapunji. You can visit several waterfalls, including Dain-Thlen, Nohkallikai, Kynrem and Nohsngithiang. You can also visit the magnificent caves.
Shillong is the most populous capital city of Meghalaya. Britishers named this place “Scotland of East” due to its landscape that resembles Scotland. You can visit waterfalls, botanical gardens, parks, caves and lakes in this city.
Williamnagar is a must-visit place if you are a bird watcher or an adventure-loving person. You can visit several unexplored forests, hike and trek. Other prominent places in Willianagar include Napak Lake, Domre Falls, Simsang River and Tasek Lake.
