Nagaland is home to several tribes with unique cultures and traditions. Hence, the state is fondly referred to as the “land of festivals”. Fittingly, it celebrates unique festivals with traditional dance and art. The prominent festivals in this state include Hornbill Festival, Aoling Festival, Sekrenyi Festival, Moatsu Festival, Tuluni Festival, Metemneo Festival and Amongmong Festival.
The Hornbill Festival is an initiative from the Nagaland Government to encourage inter-tribal interaction. It involves dance and songs from the Naga tribes wearing their traditional attire. Other highlights of the festival include traditional archery, Naga wrestling, food stalls and handicraft shops.
Aoling Festival is a spring festival in Nagaland that spans six days. The Konyaks tribe celebrates it, and the festival begins after the end of sowing the agricultural land. On the last day, they clean their houses and the village.
Sekrenyi Festival lasts for ten days, and it is also called the Phousnyi festival. The Angami tribe celebrates this festival, which involves unique dance and several other art forms that reflect the culture and traditions of the tribe.
Moatsu Festival spans three days, and it is celebrated by the Ao tribe. They participate in celebrations and several cultural activities after a hard day of work in their fields.
