Features of Universal Account Number (UAN)

Centralized Management:

UAN is a 12-digit unique identifier assigned to each employee with an EPF account. Its primary purpose is to centralize all PF accounts, transcending employers and job changes. This ensures that an individual's PF accounts are managed cohesively.

Seamless Transitions:

When an employee joins a new organization, they receive a new PF account number. However, UAN remains constant. It allows employers to authenticate the employee's EPF account swiftly after verifying essential documents, simplifying the onboarding process.

Preventing Errors:

Centralizing PF accounts through UAN minimizes the risk of erroneous withdrawals and transfers. It streamlines these processes, making them hassle-free and error-resistant.

Ensuring Authenticity:

UAN validates the authenticity of all PF accounts held by an employee, eliminating any doubts about the credibility of these accounts.

Monthly Tracking:

Employers' contributions to employees' PF accounts can be easily tracked using UAN. The online registration process through the EPF Member Portal enables this seamless monitoring.

Offline Registration:

Alternatively, employees can register their EPF account offline by sending a text message - EPFOHO UAN ENG to 7738299899 from their registered contact number with the Employee Provident Fund Office (EPFO). This generates their EPF passbook for convenient access.

Employer Accountability:

UAN acts as a safeguard against employers withholding or failing to contribute to employees' PF accounts. It ensures transparency and fairness in these financial transactions.

Online PF Withdrawals:

UAN empowers employees to withdraw their PF online, simplifying the process and reducing paperwork.
