Uttar Pradesh is both the largest and the most populous state in India. It is also one of the most advanced states in the country in terms of expressways, international airports, industrial corridors, educational institutions, medical institutions, and indigenous product exports.
To drive the state’s infrastructural development, the state government needs money, and road tax serves as a major avenue for getting the funds needed to fuel the state’s economic growth.
Thus, all private and commercial vehicle owners in the state of Uttar Pradesh need to pay appropriate road taxes as per theUttar Pradesh Motor Vehicles Taxation Act, 1997. The Act details every rule regarding road tax - its imposition, penalty clauses, tax refund, and the like.
The following sections discuss the various provisions of the Uttar Pradesh Parivahan road tax and elaborate on how to pay UP road tax online, the RTO charges, and the best way to determine your tax liabilities with a tax calculator.

Generally, the Road Transport Authority (RTA) or Road Transport Corporation (RTC) of a particular state, such as Uttar Pradesh, is responsible for collecting and assessing road tax from private and commercial vehicle owners whose vehicles are registered in Uttar Pradesh.
According to Section 22 of the Uttar Pradesh Motor Vehicles Taxation Act 1997, if a State Government-appointed officer finds that a vehicle is being used without paying the appropriate taxes, the officer may seize the vehicle or hand over the owner to the police.
However, if the offender pays the taxes, the Taxation Officer must immediately release the offender and their vehicle. Payment of road tax is mandatory when you buy a new vehicle.
