Benefits For Senior Citizen Passport?

The Ministry took an initiative several years ago, specifically on June 24th, 2017. Under this programme, people aged 65 and up seeking new passports will get a 10% discount on the relevant passport fee. Additionally, senior citizens can also get help at PSK/POPSK with a special ticket that speeds up the process. 

Senior Citizen Age For Passport In India

According to India's passport rules, a senior citizen is any person who is over 65 years old. For people living in Jammu and Kashmir, the age requirement differs for men and women. If a person lives in Jammu and Kashmir and meets the following requirements, they can get a senior citizen passport:

  • When a man turns 65 years old,

  • When a woman turns 60 years old

Eligibility Criteria For Passport For Senior Citizen

These are the rules about who can apply for a senior citizen passport. If a person meets the following requirements, they can apply for a passport as a senior citizen:

  • The person has turned 65 years old and does not live in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

  • For people who live in Jammu and Kashmir, women must be at least 60 years old, and men must be at least 65 years old.

  • Anyone who fits into any of the following groups is thought to live in the state of Jammu and Kashmir:

  • The person was born in Jammu and Kashmir.

  • There is a fixed address for the person in Jammu and Kashmir.

  • The person lives in Jammu and Kashmir.

  • There is something important to keep in mind: Indian citizens from other states who are sent to work for the Indian government in Jammu and Kashmir are not considered to live in that state.

Documents Required For Senior Citizen Passport In India

The documents required to apply for a passport for senior citizen are as follows:

1. Proof Of Address 

You can submit any of the following documents as address proof:

  •  A rental agreement

  • Utility Bills (water, electricity, gas, TV cable, internet, phone bill)

  • A copy of your bank account's passbook

  • Aadhar card, PAN card, or voter ID

  • Offer Letter (if employed)

  • Tax bills for income

  • Property documents

  • SC, ST, and OBC certificates

2. Proof Of Age: Any proof of your birth date

You can submit any of the following documents as proof of age:

  • Education certificate (high school, diploma, graduation)

  • PAN card, Aadhar card, or voter ID

  • Driving Licence

  • Pension certificate

How To Apply Passport For Senior Citizen

The process for applying for a passport for senior citizen is the same as that for an adult. They will be given a passport that is good for 10 years. The only difference is that they don't need to book an appointment beforehand. They are free to walk in during official hours, and no one else can be present on their behalf. 

Here are the steps to follow:

Step 1: First, go to the PSK page and click on "New User Registration."

Step 2: Make an account.

Step 3: Click on "Apply for Fresh Passport."

Step 4: Download and fill out the application form correctly.

Step 5: Upload the application along with the required documents.

Step 6: Pay the fees that are needed to get a new passport.

Step 7: After you finish all the official steps in the PSK, you will be given an ARN, which stands for "Application Reference Number'' which will be required when you visit the PSK.

To apply for a passport for senior citizen, you have to go to the PSK. Here are the exact hours that PSKs are open:

9:30 am to 4:30 pm

Passport Renewal For Senior Citizens

The passport renewal for senior citizens is almost the same as applying for a new passport. The only difference is that instead of clicking on ‘’Apply for Fresh Passport'', you need to choose ‘’ Re-issue of Passport’’. Along with the required documents, you need to submit your old passport, too. 

Passport renewal for senior citizens can be done at least a year before the existing one expires. One advantage is that, if you are a senior citizen, you won’t be penalised even after it has expired.

The passport fee for senior citizens depends on the type of service required, the number of pages in the booklet and whether they choose the normal or Tatkal scheme. Here’s how the fee structure looks:
