Adding poha to dals and rice while making idlis results into soft idlis, called Benne Idlis. Rice is rich in carbohydrates while urad dal and channa dal have good amount of proteins. Adding few fenugreek seeds, will aid in fermentation of batter.

The hot steam cooked benne idlis can be a great meal.
3 cups idli rice, ½ cup urad dal, ½ cup channa dal, ¼ cup fenugreek seeds, 1 tsp fenugreek seeds, 1 tsp ghee
1. Soak the rice, dals and fenugreek seeds in water for 4 hours. Wash the rice and dals. Drain the water and keep aside.
2. Soak the poha in water 15 minutes before grinding the batter. Drain the water and keep aside.
3. Grind the rice, dals, and poha to a smooth batter.
4. Allow the batter to ferment overnight or for7 to 8 hours.
5. Once fermented, add salt.
6. Grease the idli moulds with little ghee and pour the batter in each mould.
7. Steam cook the idlis for 5 mins.
Hot benne idlis are ready. Serve in breakfast or as an evening snack.
