Plantain Rice

Ingredients: 1 ½ tbsp. brown rice, 1 tbsp. white rice, 1 cup water, ¼ cup of plantain cubes, ½ tsp each of cumin and mustard seeds, a few curry leaves, a pinch of hing, salt, a pinch of turmeric powder, 2-3 pinches of rasam powder, 1 tsp of chana dal. 

Steps

 1. Soak the brown and white rice along with the dal for 2 hours. Later, drain the rice, shift into a pressure cooker and add the chopped plantain. 

 2. Cook till you get 2 whistles. Remove the lid and mash the contents well. 

 3. In a pan, heat oil and add the mustard, cumin seeds and curry leaves. When the seeds have spluttered, add spice powders and mix well. 

 4. Pour in the contents of the pressure cooker, sprinkle salt and cook for 2-3 minutes.
