Spongy Idlis

Steam-cooked healthy spongy idlis taste yum and are light on your little one’s tummy. This carbohydrate rich breakfast/snack dish is ideal for your child. The best part about this snack is it comes very handy. Refrigerate the fermented batter when prepared and make these tasty idlis whenever your child feels hungry.

    Ingredients to make Spongy Idlis:

    3 cups idli rice, 1 cup urad dal, 1 tsp fenugreek seeds, salt as required, 1 tsp oil

    Steps to make Spongy Idlis:

    1. Wash and soak the idli rice and urad dal separately for 4-5 hours. You can add fenugreek seeds to the urad dal while soaking.

    2. Grind the rice and dal separately. Mix well and allow the batter to ferment overnight or 6-8 hours.

    3. Salt slows down the fermentation process. Hence add salt to the fermented batter.

    4. In an idli steamer, take some water. Grease the idli moulds and pour the batter filling each mould.

    5. Place the idli plate stand in the steamer and steam for 10 mins on high flame.

    6. Swtich off the flame and carefully take out the idli plates. Allow it to cool for 2 minutes and then take out the idlis from the moulds.

    Spongy Idlis are ready to be enjoyed by your child. Serve warm with chutney or sambhar.
