Yummy energy packed snack made from parboiled rice are Steamed Rice Balls. Seasoned with channa dal, udad dal both good source of proteins, and curry leaves- a good source of vitamins, this snack can be had anytime and is also easy to carry while travelling. Adding finely chopped onions, which are good source of Vitamin C and dietary fibre, few fenugreek seeds that boost immunity and some flattened rice, which is rich in carbohydrates and proteins, makes it tastier and wholesome.
1 cup parboiled rice, ½ tsp channa and udad dal, 2-3 fenugreek seeds, 1 tsp flattened rice, 1-2 curry leaves finely chopped, ¼ cup onion, salt as per taste, ¼ tsp ghee, ½ tsp oil
1. Soak the parboiled rice along with fenugreek seeds for 2 hours. Drain the water and grind to a coarse paste. Add flattened rice that is washed and grind along with the coarse paste. Add salt and mix well. The batter should not be watery. Hence, add water as needed.
2. In a thick wok, add the oil, channa and udad dal, curry leaves and pour the batter. Mix well and keep stirring till the batter turns into a thick dough. Please keep the wok on medium flame.
3. Once the dough is ready, switch off the flame. Add ghee and mix the dough well.
4. Once the dough cools down, make small round balls and arrange them on an idli plate.
5. Put the idli stand in a steamer and steam for 5 mins.
After 2 mins, serve the Steamed Rice Balls.
