A delicious and traditional sweet preparation, sweet puttu can be made using jaggery, which is rich in vitamins and minerals and rice, a good source of carbohydrates. You can flavour the sweet further with grated coconut, which has vitamins and fibre.

Ingredients to make Sweet Puttu:
½ cup raw rice, ½ cup jaggery, 1 tsp oil, salt as per taste, 1 tsp grated coconut.
Steps to make Sweet Puttu:
1. Soak the rice in water for about half an hour. Drain the water completely and spread the rice on a cloth to dry completely.
2. In a pan, fry the rice on medium flame till it turns light brown.
3. Powder the rice coarsely in a mixie and add salt as required.
4. Moist the flour by sprinkling little water. Get the flour to a consistency where if you press the flour in your hand, it should hold the shape and when you break it, it should break like sand.
5. Steam the flour (roughly shaped balls) for 15 mins.
6. Once steamed, transfer the flour to a plate and make it lump free. Either you can grind in the mixie or use your fingers to get an even powder.
7. In the same pan, add oil and saute the grated coconut for 2 mins. Keep aside.
8. Prepare the jaggery syrup by dissolving jaggery in water. Once dissolved, filter the impurities and boil the syrup again till it forms a hard consistency.
9. Finally, add jaggery slowly to the flour and mix well. Garnish with coconut.
Yummy sweet puttu is ready to sweeten your taste buds.
